In real life, the most-used reason for searching a car is not probable cause but “Search Incident to Arrest.”

—Derron Woodfork, criminal defense attorney

On attorney/client privilege: Your lawyer may not repeat anything you say to him or her in private. Your lawyer will use that information to better defend you but may not lie or knowingly allow you to lie. If you inform your attorney that you shot a person and are asking for help, the attorney can help. However, the attorney may not help you lie in court by putting you on the stand and asking questions when he or she knows you will lie. If your attorney asks you questions and you begin to lie (on the stand), your attorney may stop the questioning and ask to be dismissed from the case. Check with your lawyer on all of the details. Most exceptions to the rules of attorney/client privilege deal with future crimes. You may ask how to avoid doing something illegal.
